Conga is a minor antagonist in many adaptations of Jungle Emperor. In the manga and '89 series, she is native warrior that leads an African tribe.

Design[]

Description[]

Conga is a brutal queen to her tribesmen and loyal animal subjects. She wants what she wants when she wants it. Her scheme is to take over as much land as possible to expand her territory by getting rid of opposing humans and animals.

In Jungle Emperor (manga)[]

Queen conga

In the middle of the story, "Conga" appears as an alter ego of Mary after she gets separated from Kenichi. She is taken by the Jungula Tribe. Fearing for her life, she thinks of a way to catch them off-guard. She pulls out a ball-point pen rubs against an leopard to make static electricity. The tribesmen are so amazed and scared at the same time. They decide to make her queen of her tribe. During this time, Mary forgets her previous life and brings forth her new identity: Conga.

She meets Kenichi downstream of the Donga and plans to take over his occupying area. The white lion would be a great bait tactic to capture Kenichi's white lion friend in order to lure Kenichi upstream so that Conga and the tribe can strike the undefended land. When Higeoyaji (Dr. Mustache) crashes into the tribe on accident, she plans to capture him too for the same reason. Astonishingly, she remembers that Higeoyaji is Kenichi's uncle, yet not her previous identity. Higeoyaji plays a flute melody that Conga recognizes from her previous life before he escapes. She is flooded with tears and anger all at once.

Despite this, she attacks the downstream area after she captures both Kenichi and Higeoyaji. She tells her tribesmen to set every dead and living creature on fire as a fear tactic. Suddenly, a huge mammoth starts fighting alongside Kimba (Leo) and his jungle. Her tribesmen suddenly realize what a terrible and brutal queen she is and start to turn on her. Kenichi tries his best to remind Conga about her previous life and to convince her to go back to Japan and live a peaceful future. The alter ego ceases to exist after this point.

In Kimba The White Lion[]

Ep

In the 1965 series, her English Dub name is Tonga. She is the amnesiac alter ego of Roger Ranger's true love, Mary. She is known for being bossy, cruel, greedy, and cunning. In only this anime adaptation, she is a leader for a group of hunters instead of tribesmen.

Mary was a young girl who was in love with Roger, but who then lost her memory for a while. During this time, she was the animal hunter Tonga after being adopted by Mr. Triggerman, former head of the Hunting Ground located near Kimba's jungle kingdom. Tonga first appeared in Ep. 11, "Catch 'Em If You Can", where she decrees that a hunting contest would take place, with Kimba being the object of the hunt. Tonga next appeared in Ep. 12, "The Hunting Ground", where she sends her lioness Belladonna to seek out the white lion cub.

At first Roger recognized Tonga as Mary, but neither of them know what he was talking about. Tonga next appeared in Ep. 25, "Too Many Elephants", where she and Mr. Triggerman spy on Kimba one or two times while planning to hunt the elephants on their ground. Lastly, Tonga appeared in Ep. 45, "Such Sweet Sorrow", where she kidnaps his uncle Mr. Pompous. After both he and Roger get caught and learn the truth about Mary, Roger plays a simple song, and she somehow recognizes it. Nevertheless, Tonga and her crew terrorize Kimba's jungle kingdom, but are defeated. Back at the hunting ground, Tonga's animals try to attack her, but Roger protects her. She falls on her head and regains her memory. In the end, she goes by Mary again and leaves the jungle with Roger and Mr. Pompous.

In The New Adventures of Kimba the White Lion (Jungle Emperor 1989)[]

In the 1989 series, she was a native warrior instead of being Mary. In episode 7, Courage, she starts as an enemy when she tries to kill Kapu's mom an okapi.

On episode 36: Reconciliation, she is reformed after she helps Kimba (Leo).
