Jack or (Jacques) is a rat who is friends with Leo and his first companion in his adventures to the city. In Jungle Emperor (manga), Jack reveals that he was born in Paris, France and raised in Marseilles.
Traits[]
- In the manga and the 1965 series, Jack wears a kipper tie, but in the 1997 movie he lacks a tie.
Personality[]
He seems to have a passion for stealing things, but has a good heart and will help a lion in need.
In the 1997 movie, he keeps the passion for stealing food to survive, and proves to be a cynic as shown when he doubts the idea on humans and animals dwelling in harmony. Underneath, he proves himself a kind heart as shown when he reluctantly says goodbye to Lune.
Appearances[]
- In the Jungle Emperor manga, he follows Leo to the city and acts as his first friend, motivator and guide. While in the presence of humans, Jack secretly communicates with Leo because he knows that humans do not like rodents. Later, he waves goodbye to him as he sails back home to Africa.
- In the 1965 series he is seen with the cargo ship where Eliza (Snowene) is transported to a zoo in London, when the storm sinks the ship, it is unknown if Jack and the other rats survived.
- In the 1997 movie, he steal some candy tossed by the circus crowd, Lune offers him a piece of Steak, when the circus is on fire, he, Lune and Mary escape on a horse, and Jack tells Lune that he has a jungle to back too, Lune says goodbye to Jack, Mary and everyone in the circus.
Trivia[]
- Jacques' real first appearance was in the 1964 Disneyland Magazine Comics Edition of the manga as he does not appear at all in the original 50s version or '58/'59 Kobunsha editions of the Jungle Emperor (manga). Jacques accompanies Leo all through his journey into Africa and do not part ways, acting as his best friend and guide as prince.
