Gorillas are ground-dwelling, predominantly herbivorous apes that inhabit the forests of central Sub-Saharan Africa. The genus Gorilla is divided into two species: the eastern gorillas and the western gorillas, and either four or five subspecies. Mountain gorillas are the largest living primates in the world. They have long, dark fur that helps them adapt to the cold, mountainous regions of Central and Eastern Africa. Gorillas live in troops that consist of one or two dominant males and multiple females, and the males can be twice as large as the females. Adult gorillas have few natural predators, but the juveniles can be vulnerable to leopards, pythons, and crocodiles.
